Breastfeeding Support

BY IBCLC LACTATION CONSULTANT & MIDWIFE

GENTLE, UNHURRIED AND PERSONALISED  IN-PERSON SUPPORT

Breastfeeding and postnatal support in Norfolk and parts of Suffolk

Are you struggling with breastfeeding, sore nipples or is breastfeeding not going as well as you hoped? Or is your baby not gaining weight, sustaining the latch or latching on well in the first place? Do you need support with weaning from nipple shields, have milk oversupply or is your baby suffering with excessive wind or colicky behaviour? Or is your breast pump causing you pain or not removing milk effectively?

I offer gentle support in the comfort of your own home. I can help with positioning and attachment to help your feeds become more comfortable and to maximise the amount of milk your baby gets during the feeds, help you explore different feeding positions, give advice on combi feeding or help you work towards exclusive breastfeeding, give advice about increasing your milk supply or managing an oversupply, assess your baby for tongue tie and make a tongue tie referral and more.

I also offer expert advice on breast pump flange fitting and sizing (see below for more info).

Flange sizing and pumping optimisation

IF PUMPING FEELS UNCOMFORTABLE, INEFFICIENT OR EVEN PAINFUL, YOU ARE NOT IMAGINING IT — AND IT MAY NOT BE “JUST HOW IT IS”

Using the correct flange size can make pumping more comfortable and often improve milk output

Most breast pumps are sold with just two standard flange options — a “small” (usually 21mm or 24mm) and a “large” (28mm). However, there is far more to flange

sizing than simply choosing “small” or “large”.

The most up-to-date research shows that flange fit should be based on your individual nipple size and anatomy —and that many women are using flanges

that are significantly too large for them. If pumping feels uncomfortable, inefficient or even painful, it may not be “just how it is.” Flange size can have

a significant impact on comfort, milk removal and

overall pumping experience.

Using the correct flange size can make pumping more comfortable and often improve milk output. A better fit

may help to:

  • Reduce nipple pain

  • Improve milk removal

  • Prevent swelling and tissue damage

  • Make expressing more efficient and sustainable

  • Support long-term milk supply

During your consultation, I can also advise you on pump

choice and set-up. Not all pumps are created equal, and selecting the right one for your individual circumstances

can make pumping far more effective and manageable.

Flange sizing consultations are available as a standalone appointment, or at half price when booked alongside an

in-person breastfeeding consultation or antenatal

breastfeeding session. Please see below for pricing.

What clients say...

"Absolutely first class support. Truly wonderful experience with Andrea. I would always recommend her to any new parents who need help with nursing, so nice to have the help in your own home, one-to-one. It’s a calm, peaceful and just a more natural experience. Andrea had our son, who wouldn’t previously latch or suck, feeding from mummy within the first session so definitely money well spent to get some amazing help with no interruption. Thank you so much!"
